RWTH Aachen University, established in 1870, is divided into 9 faculties. Approximately 40,000 students are enrolled in 130 courses of study. The number of foreign students (5,000) substantiates the university’s international orientation. Every year about 5,000 graduates and doctoral graduates leave the university. Approximately 514 professors as well as 4,492 academic and 2,346 non-academic colleagues work at RWTH Aachen University. The university budget amounts to 794 million Euros of which about 321 million Euros are third-party expenditures. Moreover, special fields of research, 26 graduate colleges, among them 14 founded by the German Research Foundation, 16 affiliated institutes with strong industrial alignment illustrate the university’s considerable research potential.
The Department for Software Engineering (SE) at the RWTH Aachen University has the mission statement to define, improve and industrially apply techniques, concepts, and methods for innovative and efficient development of software and software-intensive systems, such that high-quality products can be developed in a shorter period of time and with flexible integration of changing requirements. The department has gained extensive experience in modeling, simulation and development of multi-energy management system in non-passive buildings and home energy systems as well as software engineering for Smart Grid and Demand/Response applications.
